The investigation items were as follows: basic attributes, degree of independence in transferring to and from the toilet, degree of independence in toileting behavior, severity of dementia, cognitive function, and BPSD. Statistical analysis compared the independent and non-independent groups in terms of the degree of independence in transferring to and from the toilet and in toileting behavior.The independent group had significantly higher values of cognitive function in terms of temporal orientation and sentence writing and had a significantly greater degree of independence in transferring to and from the toilet and in toileting behavior; the effect size was the highest for temporal orientation. Furthermore, of the BPSD, irritability was significantly higher in the independent group than in the non-independent group.The toileting behavior of the two groups suggested that the non-independent patients may be more prone to have impaired orientation. The study also found that patients with a degree of independence in terms of toileting behavior tended to be diagnosed with irritability. However, as this study was a cross-sectional study and the causal association remains unclear, further investigation is
